Treating Glaucome With Micropulse P3 Cyclophotocoagulation
At Ophthalmology Physicians & Surgeons, PC in Philadelphia, PA, our doctors offer MicroPulse® P3 cyclophotocoagulation, a new FDA-approved glaucoma treatment that can treat severe cases of glaucoma in a less invasive fashion than traditional methods. This laser treatment can be performed by our doctors as a means to help alleviate pressure within the eye and minimize the amount of medications needed to control the condition. It requires no incisions, and patients can typically resume normal light activity within 24 hours of surgery. During a consultation, we can determine if this treatment is appropriate for you.
We proudly adopt sophisticated technology to provide safer, more effective treatment.
How MicroPulse P3 Cyclophotocoagulation Works
MicroPulse P3 cyclophotocoagulation technology is the latest treatment on the market, and our doctors are proud to make its benefits accessible to our patients suffering from glaucoma. This treatment uses short, slow bursts of laser energy (micropulses) to heat and change the ciliary tissue within the eye to improve drainage of fluid within the eye and alleviate intraocular pressure. The micropulses create a heating and cooling effect in order to avoid burning or destroying the tissue, as is common with traditional cyclophotocoagulation methods.

What Happens during the Procedure?
Before beginning the treatment, the doctor will administer anesthesia to ensure that the eye is numb and that you are completely comfortable. Once you are sedated and lying back in a resting position, the doctor will carefully lift the eyelids and gently guide the handheld device over the surface of the eye until the results are achieved. The entire procedure can generally be completed in less than 30 minutes. You should arrange for a friend or loved one to drive you home after the procedure, and plan to spend the next 24 hours resting your eyes and relaxing. We recommend avoiding any heavy lifting for at least a week after the procedure.
You may experience some soreness and redness for the first few days. This can typically be managed with over-the-counter pain medications and using the provided medicated eye drops. We will schedule follow-up exams to monitor your recovery.
